This smoothie was created because sometimes, you need to get out of the ordinary and make your breakfast fun, like a stoplight. Or a cookie. Or a muff-cake. See? Who said breakfast had to be boring?
This smoothie was inspired by my current favorite fruit: MANGO. The base is frozen mango – I chop mine up fresh and then freeze them. Each layer adds a different flavor. This time, it’s spinach and strawberry. Overall, however, mango is the predominant flavor.
To achieve the layered effect, you can blend your mango and pour half of it into the glass. Then, add strawberries and mix, then pour on top. Finally, add spinach and mix, then pour on top. BOOM. Yellow, red, green! Stoplight smoothies for the win!
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups frozen mango pieces
- One cup of frozen strawberries
- 1 cup fresh spinach
- I used 1/2 cup of almond milk and 1 cup of water.
- Sweeten with honey, agave, stevia, or frozen banana ( Optional sweeteners).
Instructions
- Add mango and milk or water to a Blender and blend until smooth. If you want it thicker, add more mango. If you want it thinner, add more milk or water.
- Pour 2/3 of your smoothie into the serving container and add the strawberries. Blend until smooth. If necessary, add a little more almond milk or water. Taste the mixture to sweeten it. At this point, I added half of a small frozen banana.
- Pour 3/4 of your smoothie on top of the layer of mango in the glass.
- Add spinach to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a serving glass. Enjoy now or freeze for later.
