Cherry Limeade Smoothie

It was a big thing when a Sonic gas station was built next to a main road in the small town where I grew up. We’re now a big city.

Cherry limeade has always been my favorite drink. It’s so refreshing, bubbly, and tart and sweet. The cherry and limes squeezed at the bottom are my favorite.

Sonic isn’t something I frequent very often (unless there’s a real craving for Peach iced tea). However, a craving for cherry and lime still exists. This smoothie is the answer. Five ingredients. Tart. And sweet. Perfect for a healthy morning on the run.

The cherry limeade recipe starts with fresh lime juice and lots of cherries. Ripe nectarine gives the drink a creamy texture, a touch of sweetness and neutrality that complements cherries well. Almond milk gives it a creamy texture, and ice cools the drink down.

This will definitely be on our weekly menu. It would also make a great popsicle if you have leftovers. Just saying.

Ingredients

  • One ripe peach or nectarine (sliced).
  • Add less ice to frozen cherries if you are using fresh.
  • 1/4 cup Almond Milk (or sub-water or any other non-dairy drink)
  • Juice 1-2 medium limes, depending on desired tartness.
  • Ice, one handful

OPTIONAL ADD IN:

  • 1 Tbsp Chia seeds
  • One handful spinach

Instructions

  • Blend all ingredients in a blend until smooth and creamy. Add more cherries if you want it sweeter and more lime if you prefer tart.
  • The original recipe yields either two small smoothies or one large smoothie. You can also freeze leftovers as Popsicles.
